    In March, the U.S. Air Force began deferring routine and non-urgent dental care to slow the spread of COVID-19. In alignment with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, American Dental Association and Department of Defense policies, most dental care has been deferred, with the exception of emergencies, cases considered medically necessary, and care for deploying and deployed personnel.

    Joint Base Andrews’ response to the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) remains in compliance with federal regulations and supports Maryland and Virginia governors’ statewide stay-at-home orders that will take effect today. “Since declaring a public health emergency and shifting to Health Protection Condition (HPCON) Charlie, we have made significant adjustments to the way we do business,” said Col. Andrew Purath, 11th Wing and JBA commander. “All of the installation measures we have in place support the new executive orders that limit movement to essential trips.”
  • President signs Executive Order calling up Air Force Reserve medics, other specialties

    On March 27, the President signed an Executive Order authorizing mobilization of the Reserve Component in response to COVID-19 operations.  For the Air Force Reserve, personnel already serving in the Selected Reserve and Participating Individual Ready Reserve, as well as those assigned to the Individual Ready Reserve, may be asked to volunteer to activate in support of COVID-19 response.  If taskings exceed the volunteer pool, mobilization of the IRR to active status is now authorized to ensure mission accomplishment.
