Air Force Memorial morning
ARLINGTON, Va. -- The sun rises above the Air Force Memorial during the Air Force Combat Action Medal ceremony June 12. Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. T. Michael Moseley presented six Airmen with the medal, created to recognize Air Force members who were engaged in air or ground combat "outside the wire." The Airmen were the first in history to receive the new medal. Among the recipients was Master Sgt. Charlie Peterson, a Reservist with the 927th Logistics Readiness Squadron at Selfridge Air National Guard Base, Mich. Tom Galpin, grandson of World War I veteran Brig. Gen.
