CALL for JOINT BASE ANDREWS & Multi-Service Volunteers

WHAT: Meet/greet 206 WWII Honor Flight veterans as they arrive to their WWII
Memorial in Washington, DC

DATE: Saturday, 29 September 2012

PLACE: National WWII Memorial, 17th Street SW between Constitution and
Independence Avenues, Washington, DC. The WWII Memorial is located between
the Washington Monument to the east and Lincoln Memorial to the west, along
the National Mall.

TIME: The first Honor Flight arrives @ 0900 (See end of email for Honor
Flight locations & arrival/departure times to/from the WWII Memorial). Capt
Kramer will arrive at the Memorial by NLT 0830 and will be standing by the
WWII Memorial Visitor's Center. NOTE: You are not required to arrive/depart
at designated times (suit your schedule). Service members from bases/posts
other than Joint Base Andrews are most welcome to volunteer!

VOLUNTEER DUTIES: This is an enjoyable and memorable experience to welcome
and meet the veterans. Our assistance includes the following: greeting the
vets as they step off the buses; wheelchair unloading/reloading; talking
with vets, and picture taking with and for vets. This is a memorable and
rewarding volunteer opportunity in a stress-free environment. Family
members/friends are welcome to attend with you.

CUSTOMS & COURTESIES/UNIFORM: Adherence to proper military customs and
courtesies is expected. AF Active Duty/Guard/Reservist members are asked to
wear Blues (service dress not required), ABUs, or Flight suits. Army/Coast
Guard/Marine/Navy volunteers, please dress in comfortable and appropriate
military uniform.

Honor Flight, Inc., is a national organization of committed volunteers who
arrange for the WWII veterans to fly-in/out of the National Capitol Region
airports and then be bused to visit "their" Memorial. The vets are
diligently escorted by volunteers called Guardians.

Public restrooms are available on site. Bottled water will be provided.
Bring food/snacks as desired. NOTE: Parking is not free (METRO ideal).
Carpooling is another option. Explore website
http://www.nps.gov/wwii/planyourvisit/directions.htm for specific WWII Metro
and public transportation info. If the weather is questionable, i.e., rain
or very windy, and you are uncertain about attending, feel free to contact
POC: Captain John Kramer on his cell @ 610-442-0848.
