Got a camera?

Well that's the first step into telling the 459th Air Refueling Wing story. As wonderful as the 459th ARW Public Affairs office is, we have yet to master the super power of being everywhere at all times ... we're working on that.

In order to tell all of the outstanding things that happen at the 459th ARW, we need your help. Often times there are so many things going on during Unit Training Assemblies that we are often double or even triple booked on our event schedule. This is where you can help.

In today's age of digital cameras, Youtube, and blogging, there is a storyteller inside of most of you just waiting to come out. I challenge each of you to embrace that tiny yearning, and put on your PA hat. If something is happening in your unit, let PA know first. If we are unable to cover it we can lend you a camera (with a hand receipt of course) and you'll be our freelance photographer for the day. If you have your own camera even better! If you're not sure about what exactly would make a good photo, here are a few hints:

1. Make sure you can see at least half of the subject's face
2. Get names of people in the photo for the cutline
3. Stay away from grip and grins or staged photos and take enough photos so we have a selection for the website

If there is story in your unit that should be told, and is newsworthy please let us know. You have to be our eyes and ears in your units in order for us tell the 459th story. Planned events aren't the only events that make a good story. Occasionally it's the simplest photo that makes the front page. Sometimes the best stories or photos happen unexpectedly.

As long as the story has military value and is newsworthy we'll try and put it on Boomer online. Please see our editorial policy letter on the 459th ARW intranet for photo and publication guidance. So if you see something happening and it's timely, newsworthy and relates to the 459th ARW's mission and its members; Take the shot!
