Members of the 459th Air Refueling Wing showcased their mission to Baltimore Ravens staff during a tour here March 7.

Colonel David A. Owens, 459th ARW commander, provided opening remarks followed by comments from Col. Roger Law, 459th Maintenance Group commander, who shared correlations between Airmen and professional football players.

"We've got a lot in common," said Colonel Law. "Your guys wear special uniforms and so do mine. Your guys prepare all week for a big weekend and so do mine. Your guys are held to a very high standard as professional athletes and so are mine. Your guys are committed to a big cause and so are mine."

However, Colonel Law illustrated one key difference which sets every 459th Airman apart from professional sports players: their selfless sacrifice to their nation.

"At some point during their lives they say, 'I do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic ...'" said Colonel Law. "This translates to Airmen wearing this uniform and without hesitation or reservation protecting our country and giving their lives at any time for its cause," he said.

After remarks the group was welcomed onboard a KC-135R Stratotanker where they explored the cockpit, boom pod and observed a special presentation by the 459th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron.

"It was awesome to see what you guys do every day," said Kevin Rochlitz, Baltimore Ravens vice president of corporate sales and development. "We appreciate everything the Air Force does to keep us and ultimately our team safe."
