With a commanding 4-foot ten [and ¾'s] inch presence, Master Sgt. Sheryl Sorensen, 459th Aerospace Medicine Squadron medical administrator, carries the weight of the entire 459th Air Refueling Wing on her shoulders.

Sorensen manages the Line of Duty and Medical Evaluation Board programs. Her leadership testifies to the great extent she fulfills her commitment to Airmen here as a reservist and as an Air Reserve Technician.

"The ART position was vacant for a year and half before Sorensen came to us in October 2014," Col. Christine Barber, 459th Aerospace Medicine Squadron commander, said. "She is the face of AMDS when our wing members get hurt. I have to say, I'm proud to be her commander."

The wing needed major support, and Sorensen takes care of wingman here.

"We really needed someone good," Barber stated. "She had great references and credentials. She takes care of Airmen of the wing like no other. When Airmen get hurt, they should not have to worry about the administrative burden. Master Sgt. Sorensen does that from a medical prospective."

Barber said she has been recognized by the wing and group commanders for her ability to communicate to execute the mission effectively.

Sorensen said she wants to communicate vital information to Airmen that may affect their retirement.

"Many reservists are not aware, that should something happen to them, whether they're on orders or not, they can come to me with any medical or entitlements questions."

In her role, she is able to make Airmen feel comfortable with the entire medical process.

"I love nothing more than helping people. If I can ease someone's mind and help them to get from point 'A' to point 'B' with their medical care, that really makes my day."

Her passion does not go unnoticed.

"She cares about all the Airmen like they are her family," explained Barber.  "It's a heavy burden that she carries."
