The Air Force Reserve recruiting service is looking for both recruits and recruiters. Get 1 Now and Recruit the Recruiter are two Air Force Reserve Command programs that allow members of the 459th Air Refueling Wing to recruit new reservists through referrals or by serving as a reserve recruiter.

"These programs are a way for reservists to take ownership of the Air Force Reserve," said Senior Master Sgt. Terry Taylor, senior Air Force Reserve recruiter for the National Capitol Region.

The Get 1 Now Program allows reservists to do just that, by offering rewards for referrals that result in enlistments within 24 months of entry into the program. Rewards are based on the number of enlistments and include satellite radios, flat screen televisions, laptop computers, MP3 players, and digital cameras.

"The Get 1 Now Program is a reservist's chance to recommend people with whom he or she wishes to serve with," said Sergeant Taylor. "By simply talking to friends and family about the benefits of the reserve, this allows the people you care about to learn more information and not only do you receive great rewards, you get the reward of giving back to the organization."

Another opportunity to give back to the Reserve is to join the ranks of the Air Force Reserve Recruiting Service. The accession program, known as Recruit the Recruiter, is seeking Reserve applicants to fill recruiting positions in locations around the globe, said Sergeant Taylor.

"Serving as a recruiter and being able to contribute to the Citizen Airmen force is an incredible reward," said Master Sgt. Darryl Washington, line recruiter with the 459th Air Refueling Wing.

Reservists interested in participating in Recruit the Recruiter can begin by contacting Sergeant Taylor for an interview to see if they meet the requirements. Criterion for applicants include the following: must hold the rank of Senior Airman or above, have completed Airman Leadership School, a minimum of one year in the Air Force Reserve, no more than 16 years of active-duty time, possess high moral standards, and have a passing fitness score.

Serving as a recruiter is rigorous and demanding, but the sense of accomplishment is unparalleled explained Sergeant Washington, who has been a recruiter for four years.

"When you meet someone who is 17 or 18 years old, work with them from their initial interest in the Reserve to enlistment, and then see them again after they've completed basic training, it gives me, as a recruiter, an incredible sense of accomplishment to see how they've grown and matured," said Sergeant Washington.

Selected applicants attend a six-week school at Lackland Air Force Base, Tex. For those who successfully complete the course, benefits include active-duty pay, special duty assignment pay, a supplemental clothing allowance along with the annual clothing allowance, and an out-of-pocket expense account.
