An afternoon of barbequing, live music and relaxation is in order for members of the 459th Air Refueling Wing Airmen and their families this summer. The wing is holding its annual Family Fun Day, currently scheduled for Sept. 10 during the Unit Training Assembly from noon to 4 p.m. at the maintenance fuel cell hangar here.

The free afternoon event will be filled with activities including a live performance by country music artist and former American Idol contestant, Bucky Covington. Other activities will include a raffle, face painting, a moon bounce, a dunk tank and a "pie-in-the-face" contest, said Tech. Sgt. Rianna Newcomb, 459th Force Support Squadron chief career advisor.

"Family Fun day gives servicemembers and their families the opportunity to relax and get to know each other in a less stressful environment," Sergeant Newcomb, leading member of the Rising Six, said.

The event is being organized by the Rising Six, a new group of Airmen whose primary focus is to boost morale, improve mentoring and supervising abilities and assist with issues concerning servicemembers in the ranks of E-1 through E-6.

Positive efforts, like coordinating the Family Fun Day, has gained attention from senior non-commissioned officers of the 459th ARW's Top 3, another newly established and official group here.

"The Rising Six is one of our strongest most proactive newly-established councils at the 459 ARW," said Chief Master Sgt. Clifford B. Van Yahres, 459 ARW command chief.

Chief Van Yahres also conveyed the Chief's Group is the over-arching sponsor for the event, but said it is the members of the Rising Six council who have really stepped up to the plate in spearheading all the details of the Family Fun Day this year.
