Capt. Susanne Schulz, coordinator of the 113th Airlift Wing's Pilot for a Day program, exchanges smiles in the engine of a KC-135 Stratotanker with 8-year-old Sam Gates at Andrews Air Force Base, Md. Sam was diagnosed with leukemia last year. Reservists in the Air Force Reserve Command's 459th Air Refueling Wing joined forces with the Air National Guard's 113th AW to host the P4D in May 2007. The program allows children with serious diseases to visit the wing and tour aircraft, the fire station, watch military working dogs and mingle with pilots and aircrew.
