Col. Tyler Schaff, 316th Wing and Joint Base Andrews installation commander, hosted a tour of the 1st Helicopter Squadron for the Joint Base Andrews Honorary Commanders (HCCs) on April 4, 2022.

The tour consisted of mission briefs on the 316th Wing, the 1st Helicopter Squadron, and capability of the UH-1N Huey Helicopter. Joint Base Andrews HCCs got the opportunity to take a public affairs flight, experience a virtual reality lab UH-1N Huey cockpit to “pilot” a helicopter, take photos with the aircraft and go on a tour inside the Helicopter Operations Facility. The visit concluded with a luncheon that provided an opportunity for Joint Base Andrews Wing leadership to engage with civic leaders.

The community outreach event increased awareness and understanding of Joint Base Andrew’s role in national security through meaningful exchanges and dialogue with civic leaders. The mission of the Honorary Commanders Program is twofold; one, to educate key community leaders about a unit’s mission and to foster a supportive relationship with the community, and two, to increase military involvement in civic endeavors and organizations and make members of the local community feel part of the unit.
